Scout Strategy National Leader Lawrence Hanrahan and Managing Director Randy Zarin will, again this year, facilitate tabletop discussions during the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Conference on November 1-5, 2024, in San Antonio.
Dr. Hanrahan will guide, “Analog Items in the Academic Medical Center (AMC) That Should Resist AI.”
What in the Analog World still needs to be maintained in the emerging AI/Digital world (High-Touch vs. High-Tech), and what are the risks of over-enthusiastic replacement of analog items/interactions? We will discuss iconic modalities such as: the stethoscope; walking/teaching rounds; physical exam; palpation; stereognosis in surgery; physical presence and non-verbal communication from patient and physician; the paper chart; etc.
Randy will facilitate, “Aligning Academic and Clinical Missions Among Affiliates.”
How do medical schools and hospital partners navigate differing priorities when education, research, patient care, and finances intersect? We will explore tensions such as: teaching vs. productivity; research as investment vs. financial strain; physician–educator roles and balance of time; patient satisfaction vs. the realities of training; and governance and funds-flow when missions diverge.
Both discussions take place on Sunday, November 2, between 11:45 am and 1 pm. For additional details and registration information, visit AAMC November 2025.
